Helen Keller: A Tribute to Her Teacher (Premier 11/06)
In honor of the centennial anniversary of the Cleveland Sight Center, Dancing Wheels presents a story ballet about the adult life of Helen Keller and her accomplishments as a pioneering force for women, people with disabilities and the civil rights movement. Choreographed by Christopher Fleming, the production is designed for mainstage performances or to be presented on high school or junior high school stages. IAn accompanying lecture/performance and residency that addresses literacy standards are also available.

Dancing Wheels presents a story ballet based on the classic Alice in Wonderland, choreographed by Robert Wesner. This contemporary, hip and fun production uses imagery and characters to take a kaleidoscopic trip through Wonderland that is edgy but very much family oriented. The story is told from the viewpoints of different characters. Multinational musical phrases are used to help the students identify the story characters. The production is designed as a field trip or excerpted as a school lecture /performance.

The Snowman
This production brings to life the captivating and heartwarming children's book and video by Raymond Briggs which includes original music by renowned composer Howard Blake. Brilliant and whimsical choreography by Sabatino Verlezza, restaged by Dancing Wheels in 2004, captures the adventures between a little boy and his newly created friend, the Snowman, as they travel through a fantastical and wondrous journey together. Delightful scenic and costume designs by New York designer, David Guthrie and dazzling lighting design by David Copperfield's own Bob Stegmiller, contribute to an ambiance of fantasy and enchantment for audiences of all ages.
Originally choreographed and staged by Sabatino Verlezza and Barbara Allegra Verlezza, Dancing Wheels restaged this work in 2004, presenting a delightful interpretation of the beloved poem by Goethe, set to the music of Paul Dukas, made famous by Disneys Fantasia. Drawing on the unique abilities of the dancers, the principal character is split into siblings: Brother who can walk and Sister who can see.
For more than 25 years, Dancing Wheels has offered repertory concerts that are recognized for their quality, diversity and infusion of eclectic works from nationally notable choreographers. The 8-10 dancer ensemble features an extensive body of works ranging from contemporary to classical that are physically inclusive and dramatically unique. Concert run times are from 75-90 minutes.

Echoes of an Angel’s Fall is a dance for seven, to a compilation of music featuring selections by Moby, The Penguin Café Orchestra, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead and Isan. In this dance, a fallen angel is not an angel fallen out of grace, but one who has fallen gracefully to earth, bringing a sense of serenity and strength. Angels are people on earth who inspire us in our ordinary lives, making extraordinary things possible. Their arrival spreads waves of optimism and hope that echo forever.
The dance is about the coming together of community even when we feel we’re falling apart.

Choreographed by internationally acclaimed, Guggenheim recipient Rosalind Newman, "Passing" is a modern work set to Arvo Part’s Fratres. Ms. Newman, has created a body of over 50 works to date, including works for a dance ensemble's performance at festivals in Hong Kong, Korea, India, Philippines, China and Australia. “Passing” is about the roads we all travel the obstacles we must face; go through, over, under and around.
"STATE OF MINE/MIND"

"State of Mine/Mind" traverses different stages of mind that often accompany specific times of day. Choreographed in four interludes, the work is loosely based on the classical sonata form of 4 movements (traditional allegro temp, melodic adagio, a playful minuet and a finale.

Verb Ballets dancer and veteran Dancing Wheels company member, Mark Tomasic, choreographed a wing/a prayer. Tomasic chose music by the Afro-Celt Sound System and Laura McDonald, because of its high energy and unusual sounds. Utilizing the company’s wheelchair dancers, the piece was constructed in three sections: the first section is a solo introducing the movement structure; the second section is a slow sustained movement highlighting unison ensemble work and the third section is a strong, high speed conclusion emphasizing the physically powerful wheelchair technique required in quick directional changes, wheelie work and sudden stops.

This 60-minute program is perfect for college campuses, business or community gatherings where a keynote speaker or entertainment is needed. This award-wining program has entertained and enlightened audiences ranging from heads of state, government officials, special interest groups and college students throughout the world. Company members will impart information, evoke discussion, and highlight a wide-range of topics with their highly-skilled performance.
